District Governor Newsletter - June 30, 2017
Dear Rotary Family,
I can hardly believe my year as DG is coming to an end. It has been a total pleasure serving you and more importantly getting to know you better than 1 year ago.
YOU have engaged yourselves in my objectives and helped to move this District into a position where we can say we are a Vibrant District. Our membership numbers are increasing and we are retaining members. WE have filled many Leadership positions with strong engaged members and have worked to continue support to the Foundation.
At the District conference I used the words from the song “You Raise Me Up” to express my feelings about the members of District 6220. As I began my DG role and after all the preparation I realized I still had limited knowledge in some areas of the Rotary organization. This is when you definitely raised me up on your shoulders to help me be all that I could be serving as your DG. I am very grateful.
You will be in good hands as Tina Hall begins her role as your DG. Tina is a dedicated Rotarian and has worked with me to ensure a smooth and effective transition. She is organized and has planned well for the upcoming year. Tina has great support with DGE, Ann Fuge and DGN, Steve Handrick. I will also continue to be a resource as the immediate PDG.
The DG support team attended the RI conference in Atlanta along with 40,000 plus other Rotarians and friends. We learned of Rotary’s updated role to continue the fight to eradicate POLIO, our efforts to address current day slavery, and to continue all efforts working to ensure sure we maintain efforts that lead to a peaceful world. The presenters reminded us that Rotarians are the ones to work together as an example to others in this world of our dedication to working together to overcome the challenges everyone faces in the world. We were reminded that one life having all needs met is not fulfilled until everyone’s needs are met. The Rotary Leaders and presenters reminded us that together in “Service Above Self” Rotarians are Serving Humanity and together we as Rotary will continue making a difference.
I will remain very active and close to all of you District 6220 putting my hands to good use wherever I can and hopefully visit you at your many events.
I have attached a final year’s letter from RI President John Germ who shared his thoughts and reflections on our 2016-17 year. Please take the time to read it his remarks are shared by the DG class I served with.
Many HUGS and Blessing to all of you,
Almost PDG Di
